Title: A Silver Sixpence
Author:
doodle_writes
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length:approx. 16,400 words
Rating:NC17
Warnings: none
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: John, we need to get married.
Reccer's comments: The idea of Sherlock and John has been the subject of many fics but the story has never been rendered better than in this wonderful piece. The case is actually very believable, which is a huge bonus. Even better is the fact that the author takes her time to inform us about the various reactions to the news of the engagement.
First there’s Sherlock’s less than impressive proposing technique. Once that obstacle is out of the way and John has – wearily – accepted, the rest of the cast has to be informed. The author pulls this off effortlessly. The reaction of each person to the news is entirely believable, and will have you grinning like mad all the while.
Of course the influence of the idea of being married slowly but certainly converts the affection of friendship into something stronger, as must happen in these fics. The author takes her time for this transition so it doesn’t feel forced at all. The frightening moments when Sherlock is proven right (of course he is) help to strengthen the mutual love that has sprung up between the former friends. Which calls for a celebration, of course.
Wonderfully done, very funny at times, warm and gracious and with a sexy ending to boot. What more could one want from a fic?
