Vid Rec: A Strange Kind of Love; Barbuzuka
Music Title & Artist: Peter Murphy - A Strange Kind of Love
Vidder: Barbuzuka
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Verse: Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson (1980)
Link: on youtube (no announcement post)
Reccer's Comments: I began the month with a Whitehead/Pickering rec, and I'm in the mood to be self-indulgent and end the month with one, too.
I was under the impression that there weren't any Whitehead/Pickering vids on the internet anymore, but then a friend sent me this and I about died with glee. I love their stupid smiles, and their stupid shared glances, and their stupid touching, and Holmes' stupid trolling of Watson, and Watson's stupid inability to stop watching Holmes. There is not one single thing that is sophisticated about my enjoyment of this vid: it just makes me happy.
(And please let me apologize in advance for the poor quality of the footage: this vid was made a while back -- as you can tell by the older vidding style -- when the only footage generally available was a set of not-pristine VHS rips. But even with the blurry footage and wonky color: it makes me happy.)

If you're interested, the black eye, the coat, and the leotard are all from the same ep: The Luckless Gambler, which is exhibit two in "Holmes is Good With Kids."
You know, for as many times as I've watched this vid, I still have no idea what the lyrics are -- all I ever manage to catch is the occasional "your eyes." (From the general sound of it, you'd think I'd know the song from when it was new, but... Huh, 1990 is a bit later than I would have guessed. And I was busy being pretentious that year, so that makes sense.)

I did enjoy The Luckless Gambler. It feels so slow to get going but once it gets into its stride... ^__^ "I'm only smiling." "Well, it's not a normal everyday position." And that poor barman ^____^
I kept thinking that the little boy seemed so familiar. I gather he's still acting but I remember Lee Whitlock on TV particularly as a child and teenage actor ^^

That poor barman! There is something just a bit ruthless about Holmes, even behind all that smiling good humor. And Patrick Newell has very nice timing and delivery for that kind of thing, I think. :-)
