Title: Point of Maximal Impulse
Author: Smirkdoctor
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 15,517 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: BBC
Author's summary: Today was the first standardized patient interaction, and John was nervous, and very nearly late. He knew it was silly, but the act of finally introducing himself as “Doctor Watson”, of laying hands on another living, breathing human aside from his learning partner for physical exam maneuvers...in a medical capacity...well, it felt huge. He took one last deep breath and rapped three times on the door of exam room 221-B, listening for acknowledgement from the patient within. “Oh, do come in,” drawled the richest baritone voice John had ever heard.

Reccer's comments: Anatomy lessons have never been put to better use. Most medical realism/kink fics I have seen are angsty and/or dark, but this is a fun romantic comedy of ophthalmoscopes, dissections, physical exams, dirty mnemonics, and more Latin terms for body parts than you can shake a stick at. A med school AU that doubles as a Six Thatchers pastiche chock full of canon references, flirting, and insane wish fulfillment.

As a side note, if you are easily grossed out, I would recommend downloading the fic to read rather than viewing it on-site, as a few of the embedded end-of-chapter images are anatomically graphic (a dissected human heart, the inside of an eyeball, and cutaway diagrams of veins and nerves).

Title: TJLC Explained
Author/Vidder: Rebekah/quietlyprim
Pairing or Character: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 43 episodes currently (see below)
Rating: Unrated
Verse: BBC
Link: YouTube Channel "TJLC Explained"

Reccer's Comments: This is a meta series in video format which delves into the theories and evidence surrounding "The Johnlock Conspiracy" or TJLC. In a nutshell, the theory proposes that the creators of the BBC series planned from the beginning to depict Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in an onscreen romantic relationship. But even if you don't personally subscribe to that theory, this series is well worth a watch.

The host/author has drawn from many other metas and theories, including M-Theory, the Drink Code, the Phone=Heart Metaphor, and much, much more. Each video installment details evidence for TJLC from a wide range of sources including the show itself, interviews and other public appearances of the actors and showrunners, historical sources, paracanonical sources such as John's blog, and other Sherlock Holmes adaptations. It's really encyclopedic. The installments range from about 10 minutes to over an hour and a half, with most probably being between 45-60 minutes. With 43 episodes currently posted and more sure to be coming with series 4, it adds up to hours upon hours of material, all of it fascinating and compelling.

The whole thing is just amazingly well researched and put together. Each episode is structured to lay out the theory and provide supporting evidence in a clear, thorough, and engaging manner. Rebekah is extremely personable and great fun to watch as she walks the viewer through the evidence. Her enthusiasm and good humor are contagious, and make for a great piece of entertainment, no matter what the actual outcome of the show may be.

Title: Untitled
Music Title & Artist: "History Maker" by Dean Fujioka (theme song from Yuri on Ice)
Vidder: vanetti
Pairing or Character: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Verse: BBC
Link: +Here on the vidder's tumblr

Reccer's Comments: This fanvid requires some additional context to fully appreciate. The music is the theme song to a Japanese anime, Yuri on Ice, which has been described by the Anime News Network as portraying "two complex characters of the same gender who harbor a directly sexual and romantic attraction to each other". In other words, a connection has already been established to a gay romance. In the fanvid, the song therefore urges an interpretation of Sherlock and John as couple both in the past (TAB) and present day, with the implication that their portrayal as a gay couple would be groundbreaking and make history. The song and the video are upbeat, optimistic, uplifting and empowering, and just made me feel really good about everything.
