[livejournal.com profile] shockselectric is the fic LJ for [livejournal.com profile] blacktofade, to clear that one up. Note that while this fic deals with character death, it does not really have an unhappy ending. I wouldn't call it "happy" - how could it be - but it won't tear your heart out, either. Also, the artwork is amazing.

This is a long-ish fic, so budget some time, because you won't want to put it down until the end. Blacktablet rachets up the tension right from the very beginning and never lets go of you all the way through.

The story starts with Holmes's death, for which Watson blames himself, and hurtles on from there as Holmes visits Watson in a dream state and Watson progresses from his initial disbelief to the realisation that yes, he is being haunted by Holmes. The dream sequences are plausible, the sex is smoking hot (yes, with a ghost!) and the interlude with Gladstone in the park is a sweet relief in the midst of the action.

Even from beyond the grave, Holmes manages to nudge Watson in the correct direction to solve the mystery of his own death and somehow, although the ending is certainly bittersweet, it manages to be bearable.

Verse: Ritchie films

Author's summary: Adaptability was part of the human condition. There was not a living creature on earth who did not possess the inherent need to change and grow with their surroundings. Set immediately following the events of the movie--without the whole Moriarty thing.

Reccer's comments: I seem to have found some real gems in the Ritchie-verse this time. Normally, that's not my favourite corner of the fandom, but Foxxcub is a genius at portraying the two of them in this 'verse.

After Watson's marriage, Holmes tries to condition himself to live without John Watson. Needless to say, that doesn't work well for him, especially after he is shot and is forced to admit his attraction to Watson while he is drugged and in hospital.

Foxxcub describes despair very, very well. I don't like fics in which the two of them deceive Mary, or worse, disregard her existence. Watson is far too much of a gentleman to treat her like that, even if Holmes would be capable of it. Here, the two of them are so destined to be together, like Romeo and Juliet, that's there's really no help for it, but still Watson secures Mary's consent and the fic ends on a tentative, but hopeful note.
